How to Detect a Slow Leak
March 05, 2014
Tip of the week #5
If you suspect you have a slow water leak. Try this simple tip: Tonight before you go to bed and after everyone is done using water, go outside and write down the water meter reading. Then when you wake up the next morning before anyone uses the toilet or shower, check the meter reading again, if it has changed then you have a leak somewhere.
It may be time to call the plumber to do some advanced leak detection, but before you do, you might check the usual suspects. Start on the outside of your home and work in, hose bibs and water shutoffs valves, then look for dripping faucets inside and leaks under the sinks. Identifying the leak will save you cash on your water bill and also help prevent damage to your home.
