Be Careful What You Put Down Your Drain
April 09, 2014
Tip of the week #10
Be careful what you dump down your drain.
A few days ago we went on a service call and discovered a big problem. The home owner had used a powerful chemical to clean the tile and grout in their shower and the excess was dumped down the drain. The result was a destroyed drain pipe. Take a look at the picture below and you will see what is left after the chemical melted it.
Most household cleaners are safe to use on your plumbing, but it's a good reminder to check before we dump hazardous and potentially damaging fluids down the drain.
So next time, before you get desperate and dump a gallon of that toxic, corrosive drain cleaner into your pipes in an attempt to clear a blocked drain, give your plumber a call. It may save you a lot of time and money.
Have you had a problem with powerful cleaners? Tell us your story.
